CELEBRATING EASTER

The very first Easter taught us that life never ends, and love never dies. May the dawn of this Easter season bring you joy and peace!

DIGNITY IN THE NEWS
At noon on Monday, December 18, the world became suddenly abuzz with the news that the Vatican had approved blessings for same-sex couples in a doctrinal declaration titled Fiducia Supplicans. The calls and emails were coming fast and furious to Dignity/Chicago - the media wanted to know what we had to say. Many thanks to Doug Ferguson for fielding those calls and emails, passing them on to our media team: Mary Donnelly, Marty Grochala, and Chris Pett. The news was totally unexpected, so  the first order of business was to read the announcement and draft a statement. Then a conference call to determine our message. Yes, this was positive news, in light of other recent statements. It was a step forward and, in Vatican terms, monumental. So, we were pleased to have it. However, the blessings came with many caveats that provided a very narrow definition of what this blessing is and, more importantly, what it was NOT. And it was far from a full-throated affirmation of LGBTQI lives and relationships.

Once the Dignity/Chicago Statement was drafted, calls and messages were returned and interviews scheduled. The statement was sent on to our social media team James Cappleman and Mike Cook, who posted it on our website, in a message to our members and on Facebook.  Mary and Chris took the lead in giving interviews with the Tribune, WBBM, Windy City Times, and WBEZ's Reset with Sacha Ann Simons.
